From her pension, Cragg's life seems long and hard. She struggled as a slave to a free black woman. Her life depended on moving around, finding work, and dependence on others to survive. She recalls her relationship with a white man who became the father of her child. However, she explicitly states that, "I was never supported by him and was never known as his wife and never lived with him as his wife. We were not recongnizes as husband and wife." (MP pg 243). This relationship echoes the ones discussed in class. --Michelle M.
