In response to Michelle, I agree that Willard is in a very transitional time, according to marriage. She desires love but yet understands the importance of provision and having a husband who can provide for her. I think that the necessity of love in marriage does not come into complete fruition until later in the 19th or early 20th centuries. -- Hannah W.
