I feel that religion was the one constant thing in Ayer's life. I think she relied on it greatly to get her through all the deaths that she experienced. I think that through these deaths, if anything, her trust in God increased. For most people religion is a constant in their lives. It is comforting to know that it is usually stable. However, the question of why bad things happen to good people can push away from religion. Ayer did not do that. --Michelle M.
