I actually had a phone answering job where when you would answer telephone calls the phone would “beep” and then the customer would be there.  It brought me back to this time where our phone system was the latest and greatest technology, now it’s 10x better.  Now automation has taken over and getting a “real” person on the other end has become difficult.  I also really never thought about how difficult it was for African American women to break into the workforce.  I also found it interesting that white women were the majority of workers at the telephone company, not just for a couple of years, but a couple of decades. ---Pam Petzold
