McEvoy's take on the relationship between the people that work, and the technologies they operate interested me. He states that it is a "complex, dynamic, exological one that entails elements of sociology and ideology as well as the more direct impacts of technology on worker health". This made me wonder, is the relationship between the worker and his technology that complex? I feel that there has to be a simplified relationship between the two to maximize the potential of the worker. There is a reason why the worker has the job that he does, he can relate to the technology. -Jeff R. | McEvoy's take on the relationship between the people that work, and the technologies they operate interested me. | − | + | Accidents at the work place are often led to be believed that the incident happened due to the employee’s negligence on the job. Due to liability legal documents big companies have today, employees that suffer major injuries due to working on the job, have less of a chance of having the company take responsibility for the accident that occurred involved with their machinery. According to McEvoy’s article, most work accidents are the result of “employer decisions to intensify production and reduce investment in safety, thus increasing dancer to workers.” In the case of the Triangle fire, 146 workers died due to being unable to use the fire escapes because employer’s locked the door for more efficiently. The garment company ended up with no sort of punishment & rather received an insurance check. Even though this happened in 1911 and laws & regulations have been changed due to this particular event, companies today are still not held liable for their actions of not providing proper safety equipment. – Megan Gallagher | |
