| + | Something that I saw in the readings that was not in the film was the aspect of retaliation of the former slaves against their masters. There was one account in the reading that described the capture of a Confederate soldier, who was whipped first by a Union officer, then by women whom he had owned as slaves. This did not seem to be an issue in the film, as none of the men who had been slaves ever encountered white men whom they knew from their time in bondage. --Meagan P. | ||
