One of the inaccuracies of the movie was in the way no camp prostitutes were shown in the movie.  During the scenes the men experienced "liberty" from their duties, they are shown playing dice, singing, dancing, etc. (all that were accurate), but they left out the attendence of prostitutes and the roles of "respectable" women throughout camp.  In an interview, Freeman mentions they filmed a scene where Col. Shaw escorted a prostitute into his tent for the night.  He added, the scene was discarded because Col. Shaw was not the type of man (and there's no evidence) that he would have acted in such a way.-Debbie M.
