| + | As I was reading through the various wartime accounts of both Northern and Southern women, generally I was surprised how patriotic the women were and how readily they sacrificed for their cause. Just as soldiers were motivated to enlist based on their patriotic sentiments to their respective regions, those same political sentiments also motivated women to join the war effort. Another aspect from the readings that struck me involved a woman's attitude toward enemy soldiers. While some women held enemy soldiers with a certain distrust, others felt admiration, appreciating an enemy soldier's demonstration of masculinity. It was amazing, that despite the war, some women could still feel a female bond with the wives of enemy soldiers. ~Juliann Boyles | ||

I enjoyed reading the account of Louisa May Alcott in Woloch when she was describing her period of nursing in the hospital.
