I was surprised to read Sarah Morgan's account especially when she said, "But if I can't fight, being unfortunately a woman, which I now regret for the first time in my life...."  I found this to be quite a radical statment considering the societal ideology of a woman's place.  How many other women felt this way at the time of war? --E. I thought Cornelia Hancock's account in Major Problems was intersting.  What I thought was particularly interesting was how Hancock could handle the sight of blood and watch amputations take place, but when she had to write home for a soldier, she couldn't do so without crying.  I guess she had seen so many amputation take place that they no longer bothered her.  I also want to know what kind of qualifications that a man needed to be a surgeon.  To be a surgeon would a man have to already be a practicing doctor or could a surgeon be anyone willing to do the job?  ~Katherine Stinson~
