I still think that it is a little weird whenever I hear about a woman who did not want rights or did not see them as important to have. Maybe they couldn't miss something they never had? In the document, she argued that if women were given rights they would have become tools, made irrational decisions, and be less likely to defend the nation. She also says that women are born graceful and soft and therefore could never do the work that rough men do. If I were a woman in the late Nineteenth Century, I would have just wanted to be seen as an equal to men and know that I would be treated fairly in court or receive an equal distribution of property or wealth from my deceased husband. I wouldn't consider those two examples as doing "the work of the virile virtues of men." - Amy Van Ness
