This diary entry reminded me of the Abigail Adams letters we read earlier in the course because I think both are severely out of context. The editors chose the most radical thing Abigail Adams and Sarah Morgan ever said and placed only those quotes in this book. I researched Sarah Morgan’s diary for the second paper in this class. I discovered that Sarah Morgan expressed support and desire for traditional gender roles of domestic female dependence much more often than her imaginations of fighting as a soldier. Later in the diary, she even renounced women expressing strong patriotic emotions. | + | This article really stuck out for a number of reasons. First of all it seemed more like war time propaganda than a diary entry to me. When I found out that it was a teen diary that changed things for me. As Allison mentioned later in the diary she changed her views, which I don't feel is that uncommon for someone her age to do. Still, what kind of impact did the war have on someone like Sarah would was just entering womanhood? Sarah seems to dislike the fact that she can not fight for her country, but at the same time she seems delighted to be able to help out in a womanly way. -John Rowley | ||
