The father of the Grimke sisters, Henry Grimke, had fathered three African American children with his servent Nancy Weston. He later moved in with Nancy and helped raise her sons. The father of the Grimke sisters, Henry Grimke, had fathered three African American children with his servent Nancy Weston. He later moved in with Nancy and helped raise her sons. Apparently the Grimke sisters had helped their younger half brother get an education, which led him to follow in their footsteps as a civil rights activist.
