| + | It surprised me to read how women who were spinsters and windows were given many rights. I feel like it was a step in the right direction in regards to women's rights. Women were not left helpless, but were given the opportunity to make a life for themselves, without reliance on men. I feel that women gained more self confidence through this new idea of self-dependence. For example, Mary Bolling stood her ground against the British invasion of her house, and also how she stood up against her son-in-law who was attempting to take more property from her. Although single women had more rights, I feel that it was easier for women to be taken advantage of in the business world. While they were given more privileges, there were still restrictions placed on them, so it probably made it easier for men in the business world to use those restrictions to advance themselves and cheat the women. ---- Alex Mankarios | ||
