In Judith Sargent Murray's essay ''On the Equality of the Sexes '', she provides a counter-argument from the men from Europe's early-modern period. It was generally believed and perpetuated that by the men of the early-modern period that, since men have superior bodily strength compared to women, they are therefore superior (just to name one example). On the other hand, Judith Murray contends that the inferior bodily strength of women is balanced out by a superior mental strength. It is interesting to witness how women during the colonial period worked to subvert century-old beliefs.
