| + | Blocks essay on Challenging Dichotomies in Women's History had a lot of different points to make on the study of womens history in society. I especially liked the section on work vs. family. I found this to be a dichotomy that is still prevalent in todays society. The idea of being a "stay at home mother" is a very popular choice yet can be looked down upon by others for not being a real job. The concept of "mens leisure as womens work" was interesting and still relevant in my opinion. and reminiscent of the traditional roles we still put men and women in today. Even women who work outside the home have the tendency to look down upon women who in their minds maintain the traditional roles of women and work inside the home. The concepts of work and unpaid work are definitely something that are still an important aspect in the history of women in the workplace. As of right now I find that women who choose to stay home are often regarded as more traditional by todays society. --Emma Peck | ||
