After reading this article, I was wondering what the separation did to Sioux families.  I think the structure of their families already drastically changed with the introduction of the reservation system.  But especially with the "forced procurement" of children, the traditional culture began to decline rapidly.  Because so much of their culture was taught and learned (and I don't mean from books), sending children to a foreign school wiped out chances to instill Sioux (or Navajo, Comanche, Kiowa, Caddo...) identity and caused traditional family structure to fall apart.--Amanda
