| + | In reading this article, I was surprised by how gendered the immigration process was from Mexico. It seems clear from this article that younger single men made-up the majority of the initial immigrant population and that women only migrated within the confines of family. Women also seemed to wait for life changing events, such as death and divorce, to emigrate. The role marriage played in breaking family ties while creating new ones was also interesting. I would think that while marriage would realign one's priorities, it might also make them recall the families they left behind in Mexico. --Sarah Gardner | ||
