I also really enjoyed reading this article.  It really put things into perspective.  It showed how although these women came from different cultural backgrounds, they were experiencing some of the same things.  Each group had their own way of dealing with the discrimination.  I particularly found the concept of "compadrazgos" really interesting.  The concept of godparents crossed the racial and class lines.  It's interesting to see how children bring people together. -- Kari W.

When reading about slave families I was reminded of the threat we read about before of relocation or sale.  It makes it even clearer how white (Anglo) women had a very different experience in this time period than minority women.  For all groups, I didn't realize how repressive American people and law were for the formation of families.  Also, Ashley, I like your point about "women of color."  I never thought about it that way before.--Amanda
