| + | I found the presence of second-generation memorial organizations very reflective of the persistence of the Confederate mindset. Taking children from public schools to decorate the graves of the Confederate dead must have left a very strong impression on the future generation of the South. No wonder such organizations as the Sons of Confederate Veterans and the Daughters of the Confederacy were begun 30 years after the start of the Civil War. --Sarah Gardner | ||
