| + | Yes, it must have been hard for the women and for everyone in general to imagine a life in which women were not subordinate. It would have been like speaking a new language. It is always easier to revert back to your first language. The dominance of men was the foundation for everything in their society. The family, the community, their economy, everything functioned around this idea. Those women given more independence didn’t recognize this as an opportunity; it stood against everything they had known their entire life. –Andrew B | ||
