'''Strength''' I have to agree with Sarah. M&K point out earlier patterns of child labor. They do say, however, that these patterns, associated with the farm, allowed families to work together. Although families were not necessarily always working side by side in the factory, the concept of work was nothing new, so I do not think it played a large role in the destruction of the family. As Sarah said, the effects of factory life were felt only as much as families allowed. –Andrew B | '''Strength''' I have to agree with Sarah. M&K point out earlier patterns of child labor. | + | '''Immigrant Community''' I know from first hand experience how strong community ties can be among new immigrants. My family is from Port Richmond, Philadelphia. Almost everyone who lives there was born in Poland, or is of Polish descent. People from Poland flock to Port Richmond because they know there is a community of people there who have gone through the immigration process and are willing to help them. The community is extremely important to Port Richmond residents. I have family members who have arrived in America in recent years. If it was not for the support of family and community, they would have had a hard time assimilating. –Andrew B | ||
