Everyone in the family was involved in the musical group, all working together for survival. I suppose that tragedy and tough times bring people together. | + | My first thought after reading this piece was the that the family's togetherness was very limited. This particular family seemed to reverse the public/private distinction: the women (primarily, but also the young) went out and earned the rent while the father refused to work. I was also interested by the brief section on the impact of repealing the prohibition. Lydia's explanation of how it bolstered musicians makes me wonder how it impacted other groups. -- Matt Struth | ||
