I found this reading interesting but at the same time confusing. Tillie Olson is clearly attacking the women in the north who are buying the clothes that are being made, but its these women that are allowing the women she is writing about to have their jobs. Yes, their conditions are horrible and the pay is horrible, but thats not a reason to attack the other women I would think. | + | I found it interesting that Tillie Olson used a poem to express the conditions of the sweatships and garment workers. It is a very disturbing and graphic poem. A poem tends to be beautiful and lyrical but this really stands out because of how harsh it is in tone. It was really effective in creating the image of such a terrible life. -Kendall Haring | ||
