I’m sure this sentence got most of you upset. It got me upset when I read the short blackboard article of Father Le Jeune. It seems that once again girls would lead the God fearing boys into the path of barbarism and the evil that it entails. This very much parallels with the Biblical account of Adam and Eve where of course Eve brought sin upon all of humankind. Also is Le Jeune referring men and women as boys and girls, belittling Indian adults as mere children? Sort of elevating himself as a lofty religious figurehead whereas the Indian adults are mere children since they are only beginning to understand God. Le Jeune’s account reminds me of the domesticity issues of the mid 20th century as in Elaine Tyler May’s book Homeward Bound, where the sex of women, if left untamed by men, were compared to being radioactively explosive thus leading men to the path of destruction. –John Furner | ||
