Elizabeth asks about "Inez Haynes Irwin Recalls the  Militance of Suffragists in the National Woman's Party, 1921" whether the president thought he could prevent protest by meeting with the women's delegations. It seems like it was probably a much better option for Wilson than ignoring the groups, which might have further inflamed them; however, I'd be interested to know how much it would have cost Wilson politically to make a concession to the delegations on when or how he would force a vote, and whether or not their resort to "militant" tactics hurt him worse than an early concession would have. ~ Matt Struth

I asked myself the same question Ashley asked above about why African American men joined the progressive party even though they didn't believe in giving them a vote. I think that it's because they figured that out of all the other groups the Progressive party would grant them a vote faster than any of the other choices out there. Or there was probably less animosity towards them than other groups maybe.
