To comment off of Renee Roser, I thought it was interesting how in both of Calloways first two articles the Native Americans see the Europeans as threatening. The only diffence is that in the first article the greet him with peace and recieve instructions and teachings and in the second article they are excited to greet him, but receive useful "presents" such as axes, hoes, etc. I think this shows the importance of different gifts to differenet Native Americans.- Taylor Warner

In both letters from King Afonso to King Joao I thought it was interesting how King Afonso never seems satified with the efforts from King Joao. Why is he so dependent on Joao and not want to become independent? Is this because of their faithful relationship and trade alliance?
