I found the term “Technology Determinism” (meaning technology shaping what happens in society) very interesting because I never looked at technology shaping society in that kind of manner. This is able to show how technology has had an impact on America. One of the quotes that I found pretty intriguing was at the beginning in reference to technology, "History does not determine our future, but it provides us with both the material and the understanding with which we built that future" (p. 1). I did not think that technology could ever determine what will happen in society, but I already did think that society could determine technology, as society will create what they need in order to survive. When Pursell mentioned advertising in relation to technological determinism I began to understand the concept and continuing on about job availability. -Claire B |
