I think the movie did a good job of portraying the fear in the public officials whenever they were asked questions regarding the scandal. Many of the people who Woodward and Bernstein interviewed would say one thing and change their mind in fear of getting in trouble. The constant probing by Woodward and Bernstein was well done because this was necessary in order to get to the bottom of the messy Watergate scandal. The level of investigating was well done. It was quite extensive and the movie did not skimp in that department. | + | I agree with Debbie that the movie definitely portrayed the mess and confusion around the entire Watergate scandal. I am sure that between the white house trying to cover everything up and leads telling you others stories, the actual "story" might not alway be clear. What made things more complicated what that no one was talking, as was iterated by the doors slamming in their face when they were working through the list. Also the name dropping, while there were so many names dropped (and I did use Google and wiki to look up most of them) it shows how complicated the entire thing was. The wasn't just 3 guys up to no good, this was an entire presidential administration. SO even though I was lost amidst the names, I gained a broader sense of the scope of the trial. - Jenn | ||
The movie was quite well done and as others have noted before me did a good job of incorporating everyone who was involved in the Watergate story and scandal. While the movie was a focus on Woodward and Bernstein aka "Woodstein," the movie accurately showed how difficult it was for the men to gather important, revealing information. One of the scenes that stood out most to me, was the early help offered from the librarian and after she places them on hold quickly refuses the help. She further denies ever knowing Woodward or Bernstein and causes them to backtrack and not appear credible.
