| + | From Chapter six of the readings I found an interesting comparison when Paul Fussell was talking about education in a university after the war. He says, “What social institutions are the most dramatically opposite to the army? Colleges and universities.” That is one thing we hardly see in the movie, except for once I believe. He also mentions how he did not want to return to any conforming group. Both of these seemed opposite to what the characters in the movie did. None of them even gave a hint of going to a university and I think they all conformed. Fred started working at the same drug store he did before the war, Al was working at the bank and Homer, probably because of his handicap, had to stay at home. This just goes to show that everybody not only has different experiences during the war, but also after and how they choose to return to society. -afrisk | ||
