It just struck me that it's important to remember that when we say "society," we mean both men AND women. | − | Just like everyone above me, I was very moved and upset by this piece. I nearly lost two of my best friends to anorexia, and reading Chernik's words really resonated with their stories. I think there is something very valid and absolutely true in the media forcing lanky, thin women on us as the ideal. It is an ideal that most cannot live up to and for some leads to this horrible disease or its sister, bulimia. However, I think there is also something for individuals who may fit society's ideal, and brought to anorexia in an effort to try and maintain it. Like Sarah mentioned, her family, her friends, complete strangers complimented her on her emaciation. I think as a discussion it should not be about "real women have curves" or being a 00, because there are women who are naturally 00 and are not voluptuous.
