| + | What I found most interesting in Louisa May Alcott's journal is her continued reference to gender. More than once she identifies things as feminine like on page 260 when she is talking about the male attendent who gives out food, "...and patient as a woman with their helplessness..." I also really enjoyed the Northern woman on the farm and my favorite quote was "No rebuffs could chill their zeal; no reverses repress their ardor; no discouragements weaken their devotion. These women had enlisted for the war." It's important for womans history to realize during wartime women devoted themselves and gave up just as much as men. -- Emily Miller | ||
