A few moments struck me in this passage. | + | Though many men and bystanders would see these women as "ranting fanatic[s]" Florence Luscomb still describes as the crusade as a success. That in itself is something to be proud of. The momentum the women's suffrage movement had picked up is reflected in this excerpt. Though they were met with much adversity, they were able to adapt and overcome. Even though men initially viewed their outdoor speeches as too assertive, they were still successful. I was also mildly amused that Luscomb took the time to calculate the averages of all the meetings. It was rather beneficial to her argument.--MDvorak | ||

The death of these 141 women and few men could have been preventable had the owners taken into account that a building cannot be fully "fire-proof" with hundreds of cotton shirts lying around. One fire escape is clearly not enough for 600 employees especially when many were not familiar with the layout of the building. I found it heartbreaking that had it just been a matter of minutes these employees would not of burned nor lept to their death and even more appalling that for hours the bodies were ignored. I understand that firefighters need to do their job and stop the fire but could they not of split the work and tried to move bodies so they could aid workers instead of watching them jump 100 feet to their death?
