| + | In Cornelia's letters I found it interesting how she exposed the care of soldiers for their fallen comrades, "Help my neighbor first he is worse." (206). With the shortage of surgeons and even fewer nurses soldiers waited five days before a surgeon even passed by them or they gained something to eat besides tack. Cornelia glorified her work and said when she was sick she was treated like a "princess" and awarded a medal for her work. This makes me wonder if the romantic ideals of war stemmed from letters like hers? -Megan W. | ||
