I thought it was really sad to read about the exploitation of black women and slaves. These women seemed to be the last ones on the totem pole. They were described as genderless. | + | This article sheds light on the practice of the sexual abuse as of a slave by their owner. I found it surprising that, according to one line of questioning, "Twenty-two [interviewees'] ... fathers were white men" (Jennings, 186) and in another line of questioning, "Thirty-six of the interviewees ... noted that the master himself was guilty of interracial sex" (Jennings, 187). These interviews show that, not only sexual abuse, but slave breeding was a visible component to the institution of slavery. This article makes me wonder how the wives of slaveholders felt about their husbands extramarital affairs, since they ''must'' have been aware it was happening. Did they support their husbands actions from either a financial or social standpoint? | ||
