I liked this article because of the author's use of the phrase "women of color." It was nice to see it used to reference more than African American women for once. This article really emphasized the racial differences in terms of women and society and it was rather eye-opening in that sense. | + | I thought that this article was a nice synthesis of many of our previous discussions concerning gender relations and families. I was also surprised to find Chinese Americans and Chicanos discussed in this article. The comparisons in this article were very interesting. One fact that I noted while reading, was that while African slaves were encouraged to procreate and have families, the Chinese were “explicitly denied the right to form families in the United States.” (8) This article also highlighted for me the impact that American laws had on the lives and family structure of all three groups. –Sarah Gardner | ||
