| + | I always feel so bad for women in slave families. Not only are they the furthest from the ideal family during this time period, but they are doing so much to support their family and cater to their masters that they can't even begin to think about reaching that ideal. Although the family was matrifocal, the poor mother did not have the strength or the energy to put her family first because she had to put her master and his family first at all times. It's just horrible to think that a woman had to put her family second at all times and yet was still able to take care of her children (to an extent.) It is just such a horrible situation.
