The movie "Claudine" starring James Earl Jones and Diahann Carroll presents some of the issues raised in "Women on Welfare" by Johnnie Tillmon.  When I saw it a few years ago, I remember thinking about how typically 70's it seemed.  True it was released in '74, but what I mean is that it seemed to depict exactly what it meant to be black in the 1970's.  Has anyone else seen it?--Justin Mattos

I do not agree with the A.F.D.C that if a man is in the house, then the family cannot be supplied by welfare.  As Johnnie stated, the man could not have a job and be living in the house; therefore he still cannot support his children.  Welfare should be for any family that is financial unstable.  Has much of the welfare requirements changed since then?
