Throughout the semester we have discussed whether the details that are changed, character's eliminated, or combined hurt the historical accuracy of a film. Although many details concerning the atmosphere of the newsroom and the extent of who was involved in the investigation were left out of the film[http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/national/longterm/watergate/stories/ringle.htm], I think that the director and writer of the movie did an excellent job of portraying the event and that it didn't harm the movie's historical accuracy at all. The movie only showed Woodward and Bernstein working on the Watergate scandal alone in the newsroom. However, if the movie depicted a full news staff working on the investigation, the viewer would have completely been lost in the craziness of that kind of workplace. Also, the movie completely oversimplifies the editing process and cuts out many key figures all together. Yet, like I said before it would have been SO boring to watch. All in all, the changes to the story did not damage the historical accuracy of the movie. --Erin L.
