One thing I thought was very interesting was that the movie showed how some whites were 1)oblivious to the seriousness of race issues 2) racists because they simply didn't know or 3) were followers to others thinking. Miriam's husband is a prime example of this. At first he doesn't really know/seem to care about the boycott. However as time goes on he becomes a follower to trends and popular thought. Also Miriam her self starts off as a racist by culture. She grew up in a racist environment and so didn't know, yet as times changed she began to form her own opinions (unlike her wimpy husband, man that guy was a wuss). -Isaac | One thing I thought was very interesting was that the movie showed how some whites were 1)oblivious to the seriousness of race issues 2) racists because they simply didn't know or 3) were followers to others thinking. | + | I think the movie did a very good job a showing how racism wasn't over after the 1900's rolled around. Many of the people in the South maintained the view that blacks were not as good as white and in some fashion, they were less capable as whites. I think people have a tendency to think that racism hasn't been an issue for a long time, because many of us grew up that way, but racism was still rampant in the South less that 60 years ago. I think that film does a good job in showing that the fight for freedom wasn't over after the Civil War. - Victoria Y. | ||
