The readings and movie both depicted the hardships of being a miner but also how the Miner's Union played a pivotal role in their lives. I thought the interview/reading was really important in showing how the miners felt about union activities, Ratliff said "it was the greatest thing he had ever heard in his life," and was eager to share the joy of the union but in the movie not all the men were eager to share such "joy". I wonder if mixed feelings about the Union were felt all over or did some states/specific mines favor it? -Megan W. | The readings and movie both depicted the hardships of being a miner but also how the Miner's Union played a pivotal role in their lives. | + | This movie showed the terrible conditions in the mine just like readings showed. Even though the movie did not focus on the conditions of the mine, it did begin and end with those scenes which made them important and remembered. The readings were very shocking and it was difficult to read some of them because the explained terrible conditions and they were sad - like the Tennessee Coal Miners' Last Words. - Justine R. | ||
