The scene where the 54th is marching out of Boston with extreme patriotic fanfare is not something that I think was accurately portrayed.  As we discussed in class, despite there being a minority of people who were in full support of black involvement in the war as soldiers, most in the North were still prejudiced about their capabilities.  That being said, there wasn't a single person in the crowd that appeared offended or even not in full support of the 54th.  None of that was shown in this scene, although the later scene with the Union soldier who insults Denzel's tries to portray that sentiment. -Melissa E.
