This movie was leagues better than the previous war movies we have seen. (It might because of the absence of Mel Gibson)However, I think that the movie accurately depicted the trials that this regiment had to go through in order to fight for what they believed in. Which included the lack of supplies such as clothing and weapons, difference in pay, and the difference in overall treatment. The movie also showed that even though the regiment was better trained than the other regiments (which Dr. McClurken alluded to in class) they still weren't allowed to fight because of their color. Near the end before the final battle one Officer alluded to this by asking Shaw if his men were capable of leading the charge even though they hadn't slept for 2 days. There Shaw went into something that what the 54th had was more than strength, they had something to fight for. Which I think alludes to the theme of the movie. And in case anyone was wonder they did use the [http://www.law.ou.edu/hist/flags/fedflag.shtml right flag] when marching. Yes, I looked it up! - Jenn

Another thing the movie seemed to get right was the uniform of the black troops in the regiment in the South under the Colonel that ordered them to pillage the town. The black soldiers were wearing red trousers which Susie King Taylor describes in her piece, “The first suits worn by the boys were red coats and pants, which they disliked very much, for, they said, "The rebels see us, miles away."” They weren’t complete red suits in the movie but they did have the pants which I feel like were alluding to these. –Megan Mc.
