I am not sure if this was an actual question but Dr. McClurken did want us to acknowledge the memory of war. I felt that the memory of the war was not depicted well in the movie. Yes, the men came back bruised, wounded, some never came back, but they seemed to move right back into their lives. It is clear that the war left scars and Atlanta had to be rebuilt but yet it once again flourished. I thought the one point that showed hints of the war lingering around, was the $300 tax Scarlett's family had to pay during Reconstruction. It showed that Southerners were not forgiven and had to repay debts. Aside from the movie, the memory of the Civil War is alive and well, whether a Confederate flag is displayed or families pass down memorabilia, the time in history is significant to the structure of the United States and its history. -Megan W. | I am not sure if this was an actual question but Dr. McClurken did want us to acknowledge the memory of war. | + | I don't know if I would say that the movie portrayed the memory of war "well", but I did notice one thing. When Scarlett is talking with Ashley after he returns to Tara, he begins to describe some of the things he experienced during the war and the battles. It slightly resembled PTSD to me. It's not super clear or defined, but it does give credit to the fact that soldiers were left dealing with stress from the war after they returned home. - Victoria Y. | ||
