This has nothing to do with what the movie got right but I totally agree with Erin’s first point.

Moving on… one part the movie got right was the use of the church in Atlanta as a hospital.  Pews had been torn out (and probably burned for fuel) the men were then laid on the floor and cared for by the limited number nurses/doctors. If one man died another would be brought in and fill his spot. If there was no spot in the buildings the men would be lying on the street (as is seen in the evacuation of Atlanta scene). Other buildings probably used as hospitals in Atlanta would include public buildings like a town/city hall, while officers might be housed and cared for in citizens’ homes. -Megan Mc.

As my fellow classmates have said Scarlett is an annoying idiot but she does portray the idea of the old south that women were delicate. She faints every five minutes and her aunt every two minutes so it does show the supposed delicacy of women. It also shows how women might not be able to breath in the first place by the scene with Scarlett and the servent where she is getting her corset tied. The movie also depicts how dangerous having a baby was in those days because Scarlett was terrified that Melanie would die. - LeAnn

The disdain expressed by the O'Hara's and Mammy for lower class southerners was evident from the beginning of the movie. Mrs. O'Hara comes home from a helping a lower class woman give birth, and tells Mr O'Hara that it was their overseer's child and that he should be fired for having relations with a "white trash girl." She also said that the child died in birth and that it was a blessing. Mammy frequently yells at Scarlett and tells her to stop acting like a white trash as well. Another scene that seamed realistic was when Rhett said that the Confederate Army had commandeered his horse and buggy for the war effort. - Michael G.
