I am also going to comment on how well the movie shows the differences between the tactics of the standing armies and the militia. The act of war, and participating in battle itself, numerous times throughout the movie, was described as being "civilized." In a sense, for the Continental and British Armies, war was portrayed as a gentleman's sport, with specific rules and an etiquette to be followed. In contrast, the guerrilla warfare tactics of the militia completely goes against everything that the standing armies do. Numerous times throughout the movie the British officers make remarks on how uncivilized and dirty the fighting style of Mel Gibson's character's militia was because he would purposely kill the officers. Watching this movie, it definitely makes you think geez the Continental and British Armies look stupid fighting. --Erin L.

Just like other people said, the town meeting was a good representation because it showed the Loyalists and the Patriots. It also shows how violent and terrible war is. War is not just fought on the battlefields and that is shown by the burning of the church and the burning of the Aunt's home. Also, the military tactics are well represented. It shows the difference in fighting in straight lines versus fighting behind trees and other ways. -- Justine R.
