I agree with Celia and LeAnn's point about brutality in the movie, especially when it came to guerrilla warfare. But nevertheless, I thought it was well-done. It showed the importance, and effectiveness, of that tactic in the war. (He even convinced his littlest boys to do it and they were super successful, now weren't they?!) -- Kelly

I think the movie definitely described the aspect of the slaves correctly. In the movie, it was said that any slaves who served with the Continental Army or the militia for 12 months would receive payment and their freedom. I originally thought this was false. But in the reading, on page 14, it talked about how South Carolina legislatures wanted to pass this as law. Another aspect the movie got correct was the British offering freedom to slaves who fought with them. Although in the movie, it seemed as though it was less of a choice and more of an order. Also, as I'm sure other people have stated, the brutality of the British officers was probably fairly accurate, especially with the idea of them pillaging houses and going after civilians. I'm sure the British army was intense in that respect. What struck me as odd was how some of the British lieutenants were reluctant when ordered to burn houses, or kill people. They seemed sympathetic and as if they realized what they were doing was so very wrong. I wonder if there were officers like that in the British army who felt sympathy and remorse for their actions? --- Alex M.
