Just like everyone above me, I was very moved and upset by this piece. I nearly lost two of my best friends to anorexia, and reading Chernik's words really resonated with their stories. I think there is something very valid and absolutely true in the media forcing lanky, thin women on us as the ideal. It is an ideal that most cannot live up to and for some leads to this horrible disease or its sister, bulimia. However, I think there is also something for individuals who may fit society's ideal, and brought to anorexia in an effort to try and maintain it. Like Sarah mentioned, her family, her friends, complete strangers complimented her on her emaciation. I think as a discussion it should not be about "real women have curves" or being a 00, because there are women who are naturally 00 and are not voluptuous. I feel it should be a discussion of health, not of a size, because otherwise we are just perpetuating it. -- kokeefe

As a female college student I think this article really strikes home in a lot of places. I lived in Virginia Hall (all girls!) my freshman year and the amount of eating disorders  and body issues that I was confronted with in that environment was a frightening and eye opening experience. I think this article really delved into the psychological roots of anorexia as well as the societal pressures that manifest themselves in young girls. But I think that confessions such as these as well has others has made it easier for women to speak out about anorexia and bulimia today because of how well known a disease it is, and hopefully someday its notoriety will help diminish this epidemic. -Emma
