This is great because I have always wanted to know what social conservatives really want =) On a serious note, I think the reason I like this so much is because it was written in 1988 and these are arguments that I have personally heard people make. Honestly, what I really got out of this article was how hard it is to study and interpret history that is so recent because it really is difficult to separate your own feelings from the facts. I think it is important to see where one side is coming from, and even though I hate to admit it, I think that social conservatives, as described in this article, have some valid points (though they are few and far between). For example, women who choose to stay at home should get more credit in forms of tax breaks.

Just to respond to Erin, I agree completely that it really is hard to separate your own feelings especially when the "history" you are looking at is barely 2 decades old.  History gets interpreted and reinterpreted countless times since the moment an event occurs, so the closer it is to modern times and your own personal ideals, the more difficult it is took look through the historian's lens. - Christine
