I found it interesting that a fugitive slave managed to file a complaint on her former master.  I would have imagined they wouldn't even have taken that very seriously had she been a freed slave.  It is very courageous and heart-wrenching how she does try to retrieve her children and speak out against the master.  However, the treatment she describes isn't very shocking sadly.  -  Christine
