| + | I think, personally, this may be the most interesting article I have read yet. This memoir has an obvious purpose as it continually asserts Piute morality and equality to White Americans in deliberately showing Piute female virtue, lack of war-dances, productivity, and honor. But it also has an obvious audience and secondary purpose as it educates (White Americans) about Piute life, such as female puberty rites, marriage rules, and council regulations. Because it has said audience, it is very enlightening and describes topics otherwise we might not have prior knowledge of, nor have access to, such as the ministration rites. I think this is a very valuable source for both women and Piute studies and can tell us about many social, political, and gender ideas that the Piute held during the 1800s. – Elyse Lawrence | ||
